Background
DASSAULT Falcon Jet Corp Dassault Falcon Jet is a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation, with its headquarters and a large aircraft parts warehouse and distribution center located in Teterboro, New Jersey. It is primarily engaged in the development and manufacture of the military, civil and private aircraft and aerospace products, with the development and production of military aircraft being the company’s specialty. After entering the 1990s, it began to develop in the field of advanced business aircraft and has an absolute share of the world’s high-end business aircraft market.
Pain Points
Aircraft parts orders were taking too long to be delivered, and picking errors happened often. Most of the parts in these orders are for aircraft-on-ground issues; time is money for aircraft owners, and every minute of waiting for parts to be delivered costs money.
Solution
Dassault has been able to store more than 20,000 parts from its inventory by installing 3 Modula VLMs, providing over 40m³ of storage space in a 33m2 footprint. Where it would have taken five minutes or more to find a part on the shelf, it now takes less than a minute for the item to bring it to them. Equipped with laser pointers to directly locate items to be picked, it has greatly improved picking efficiency and accuracy.
The Modula VLMs also have security features that restrict and track user access, and with the fully enclosed structure, aircraft parts can be stored safely and securely in a clean environment.
“Since the installing of Modula units, we’ve seen an amazing increase in productivity, a decrease in picking errors, and we’ve established more space”, says Walek.
