Jiangsu Tianhong Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. was founded in August 2007 and is located in Danyang City, Jiangsu Province, a region known for its convenient transportation and mature supply chain. The company covers an area of 86,600 square meters, with a factory floor space of 70,000 square meters. The company specializes in the R&D of high-end intelligent casting equipment, unmanned foundry production, smart factories, MES systems and other high-end equipment and system integration, serving industries such as global automotive parts, high-speed railway parts, and machinery manufacturing.

Pain Points

With the rapid growth of Tianhong Intelligent Equipment, order volumes and production-related inventory materials continued to increase. However, the existing warehouse storage space was limited. To better serve customers and improve production capacity, the company urgently needed to maximize material storage and management within its limited warehouse footprint.

Solution

The 10 Modula VLMs occupy only about 90㎡ of floor space, yet they provide over 1,000㎡ of effective storage area by utilizing vertical space. This maximizes material storage and management within the limited warehouse footprint, saving a significant amount of valuable factory floor space.

The VLMs transformed the operation from “person-to-goods” to “goods-to-person.” Materials required for orders are automatically delivered directly to the operator’s picking bay, significantly reducing walking time and distance while greatly improving operational efficiency.

Tianhong Integrated its own ERP management system with the 10 Modula VLMs for unified warehouse management. All material retrieval orders are automatically transmitted from the ERP system to the VLMs. Upon order receipt and operator confirmation, the VLMs automatically execute picking commands, deliver the required materials, and feed execution results back to the ERP system, automatically updating inventory and ensuring full alignment between system records and physical inventory.

The VLMs are currently operating stably with a precise and reliable bin pointing system. The integrated control software enables order-based access management and seamless connection between warehouse management and automated production.
