Background
OTC (Qingdao) is part of the Japanese OTC Group, a leader in the field of welding robotics. The company has in the warehouse more than 10,000 pieces of stock.
Pain Points
As the variety and volume of stock items continued to grow, OTC (Qingdao) faced a series of warehousing challenges:
- Complex inventory management: With more than 10,000 stock items, inbound/outbound operations, counting, and location management became increasingly complicated.
- Difficulty ensuring FIFO: Without systematic batch management, the order of material movement could not be precisely controlled.
- Low traceability efficiency: Material information could not be tracked in real time, making the traceability process time-consuming.
Solution
In order to have a better management of more than 10,000 pieces of stock, OTC (Qingdao) purchased 5 Modula VLMs in 2018.
The 5 VLMs are integrated with Modula WMS software that provides accurate first-in-first-out (FIFO) management, ensuring that materials are automatically retrieved in the order they were received. At the same time, the system enables rapid traceability of materials, with complete logs for every inbound and outbound operation, allowing quick access to full lifecycle information and greatly improving quality traceability and inventory management efficiency.
