Tulips uses 6 Modula automated warehouses to optimize its e-commerce order processing

Location:

Italy

Background

Tulips is Italy’s first daily necessities e-commerce company with a real “behind-the-scenes store” that provides delivery services within 3 hours of ordering. Simply order online and choose to receive your order at home or pick it up in store. With online sales growing rapidly, they needed to find a goods-to-person technology that would allow them to consolidate their storage while optimizing their electronic ordering efficiency to deliver fast, error-free orders.

Pain Points

Like many retailers today, Tulips must find a way to meet shopper demands for fast home delivery and in-store pickup. The key to doing this is to have advanced automation systems that enable fast, accurate order picking in a way that maximizes space and minimizes labor costs. Even if Tulips tries to achieve its goal by optimizing the movement of warehouse shelves, it must increase the picking speed of workers to succeed. If they can improve their picking speed, the cost of preparing orders will decrease.

Solution

To continue optimizing, Tulips began researching automation and robotics. While researching automation, they realized that automated vertical bins were the right solution as it would significantly reduce picking time while optimizing current storage space.

Tulips maximizes their warehouse storage capacity, reduces operator time looking for goods, and speeds up e-grocery order fulfillment with a seamless link to the ERP system.

“Modula technology,” said Enrico Martini, CEO of Tulips, “has been perfectly integrated with the software at all control stages: from the e-commerce platform to the entire management of the warehouse. Currently, we only store room-temperature products in Modula automated warehouses, and plan to purchase Modula automatic temperature-controlled containers (Modula Climate Control) in 2023 to store fresh products.”
